Normal (Is that Even a Thing?)

Hello readers!  MIA writer is no longer MIA!!!  We’ll see how long that lasts. I’m so very good at keeping up with this blogging thing. In my defense...it’s hard to blog in the middle of political turmoil and a pandemic. It’s hard not to get all up in my feelings and remain objective when I… Continue reading Normal (Is that Even a Thing?)

Time to Get Terrified

I follow several people who all have something in common that makes me envy them - they face the things they're scared to do and they do them. They take those dreams they have and they leap. I've been sitting on my dreams for years - my dream to be a writer, a published writer,… Continue reading Time to Get Terrified

Twist in the Plan

The plan was to get through December blogging every day with a given prompt. As it has a tendency to do, life got in the way in a very big, very chaotic and very unexpected way. We have...hm...HAD...a herd of 11 goats with one clearly looking like she was going to drop babies at any… Continue reading Twist in the Plan

Academia, Love Me Back

Absolutely abhorrent that a professor would such a thing. I’m disgusted by this man and fully support this woman because damn, girl can write. #mywords #academianeedswork

TIFFANY MARTÍNEZ

My name is Tiffany Martínez. As a McNair Fellow and student scholar, I’ve presented at national conferences in San Francisco, San Diego, and Miami. I have crafted a critical reflection piece that was published in a peer-reviewed journal managed by the Pell Institute for the Study of Higher Education and Council for Opportunity in Education. I have consistently juggled at least two jobs and maintained the status of a full-time student and Dean’s list recipient since my first year at Suffolk University. I have used this past summer to supervise a teen girls empower program and craft a thirty page intensive research project funded by the federal government. As a first generation college student, first generation U.S. citizen, and aspiring professor I have confronted a number of obstacles in order to earn every accomplishment and award I have accumulated. In the face of struggle, I have persevered and continuously produced…

No Sugar Coating here

Such a serious title for a blog post, right? I really hesitated on blogging in light of all of the recent unfortunate events taking place on our farmstead. No one wants to speak the hard truths that come with raising livestock. They want to post the happy pictures of broody hens, thriving livestock and abundant… Continue reading No Sugar Coating here

Acting Normal in Abnormal Sitautions

Part of my role as the Program Coordinator of Abound Counseling at Lutheran Social Services of North Dakota, and a part I’m learning more about as I go, is to coordinate video conferencing events. We’ve started a series called the Brown Bag Lunch series where the Fargo based group of amazingly talented clinicians I am… Continue reading Acting Normal in Abnormal Sitautions

The Many Stages of Awake: As Told by a Mom of Two

This blog post is brought to you today by the considerate wakeup call of my three year old bright and early this morning. “Mommy,” she said while poking me lightly in the nose, “are you still tired?” The answer? Yes, I’m tired. I’m always tired. Because when you’re a mom, you’re always tired. Always...tired.… Continue reading The Many Stages of Awake: As Told by a Mom of Two

Be Human

So, there's a lot of hate mongering going on all over social media right now. Mostly Facebook. Valley News Live has become nothing more than a tabloid, stirring the pot with half facts and disgraceful reporting. That's my own personal jab at them because I just think they're jerks.  But all of this, as a… Continue reading Be Human
